All brown seaweeds contain unique fucoidans. Used in therapeutic spas and baths for hundreds of years, to produce an “oily” feeling healing water when used in the bath as a spa treatment, that draws water into the skin, leaving it refreshed, revived and rejuvenated.
This is a major ingredient in our seaweed home spa, this seaweed is renowned for the rich bathing experience produced when this seaweed is placed in warm bathing water, with its skin protecting action, it helps to protect the skin from everyday environmental stresses.
Traditionally used to relieve aches and pains, for arthritis and rheumatism and to help alleviate the irritations associated with eczema and psoriasis.
A wide range of biological activities are elicited by fucoidans from various species of brown seaweeds, fucoidans from this species of seaweed were shown to reduce inflammation in some animal models of 83% over the controls where no fucoidan was added. Some fucoidans protect collagen by encouraging the synthesis of new collagen and preventing the breakdown of existing collagen by inhibiting our own natural collagenases that occurs as we age, a true anti-aging treatment.
Highly prized for its fucoidan content up to 16% of the dry weight of the plant, this mucopolysaccharide produces a highly viscous bathing water used in spas. Additionally, this seaweed contains the carotenoids fucoxanthin and beta-carotene, vitamin E.
Also known as Toothed Wrack, Saw Wrack or Serrated Wrack.
