Botanical Name: Arctium lappa
This herb has been used in complimentary medicine as an antibacterial and antiseptic when used topically. Oil extracts have been long used to sooth and tone skin.
The chemistry of this plant is well understood. Antimicrobial activity of this plant is well documented towards both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Herbalists have long used this herb specifically for conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, and other cutaneous eruptions.
Contains fatty acids, lauric, linoleic, linolenic, myristic, oleic, palmitic, propionic and stearic acids. This species also contains soothing mucilage polysaccharides and terpenoids.
Burdock is listed by the Council of Europe as a food-flavouring ingredient.
